UDGN x Fashion Scout Presented “Anthology of African Stories” at London Fashion Week 2026
Unity in Design Global Network (UDGN) partnered with Fashion Scout to present “Anthology of African Stories — The People. The Land. The Heritage” during London Fashion Week 2026, delivering an immersive format that combined live runway and film to spotlight three distinct African narratives in fashion.
Rather than framing Africa as a single story, the presentation highlighted the continent’s complexity through three pillars—The People, The Land, and The Heritage—each embodied by one designer: Twin by Tare, Tayameaca, and Jermaine Bleu.
The People — ASIN KAI MI (Twin by Tare, “In My Blood”) revisited traditional Ijaw weddings, examining how dress marks family, union and cultural continuity. Inspired by family photographs, the collection reimagined ceremonial garments from Ijaw marriage rites. A central reference was the George Wrapper, a fabric passed through generations, anchoring contemporary silhouettes, layered construction, hand beadwork and refined tailoring in continuity rather than nostalgia.
The Land — SAFARI (Tayameaca, “A Living Archive”) translated memories of the Zimbabwean landscape into clothing shaped by movement and perception. Earth tones, fluid silhouettes and tactile textures echoed soil, sky and water, positioning land as both teacher and memory—an influence on identity as much as aesthetics.
The Heritage — TWA ME FOTO (Jermaine Bleu, “Take a Picture of Me”) drew from memories of the designer’s late mother and the cultural meaning of traditional Ghanaian dress. Reinterpreting kente through contemporary silhouettes while preserving ceremonial significance, the collection used handcrafted techniques to honour the care traditionally reserved for special garments, emphasising heritage, memory and visibility.
UDGN was founded by fashion designer and British Fashion Council member Tare Isaac as an international platform supporting underrepresented and African designers through mentorship, visibility and access to global opportunities—an ecosystem shaped by Isaac’s own experience building a brand as a Black immigrant in the UK.
