Fam Irvoll brings ‘Original Partymonster’ SS27 to London Fashion Week
Norwegian designer Fam Irvoll presented Original Partymonster, her Spring/Summer 2027 collection, during London Fashion Week with Fashion Scout, drawing on the early-2000s London club culture that helped shape her visual identity.
Twenty years into her career, Irvoll returned to references from a period when fashion, nightlife and performance frequently overlapped. At the centre of the collection is BoomBox, the East London club night associated with extreme self-expression, music and an experimental approach to dress.
Rather than recreating that era directly, Original Partymonster translates its attitude into a contemporary wardrobe built around bold colour, exaggerated proportions and handmade detail.
London club culture returns through a contemporary lens
Fam Irvoll has long worked outside the restrained aesthetic often associated with Scandinavian fashion. Humour, character and maximalism have remained central to her practice, alongside an interest in clothing as a vehicle for fantasy and personal identity.
For SS27, sportier silhouettes appear alongside vivid prints and sculptural three-dimensional elements. The collection uses these contrasts to connect the energy of London nightlife with the designer’s established approach to form and decoration.
That relationship with the city is personal. Irvoll studied at ESMOD Oslo and Central Saint Martins, developing her practice during a period when London’s club scene became an alternative creative environment alongside formal fashion education.
Nightlife offered its own language of styling. Clothes could operate as costume, performance and social identity, allowing wearers to build exaggerated versions of themselves for a single night.
That sense of transformation remains visible in Original Partymonster.
Handmade detail sits beneath the maximalism
Although the collection is defined by strong visual impact, craft remains an important part of Irvoll’s work.
Her current practice includes dresses, recycled denim, mesh, embroidery and handmade statement pieces. SS27 also extends the Fam Irvoll universe into jewellery, earrings and accessories.
Embroidered surfaces, tactile embellishment and dimensional elements add physical depth to the collection. These techniques prevent the bold prints and colour from functioning only at a graphic level, giving individual pieces a more constructed and handcrafted character.
The use of recycled denim also places familiar everyday material within Irvoll’s more theatrical design language, creating another contrast between recognisable clothing and exaggerated expression.
Twenty years of an independent visual identity
Original Partymonster arrives two decades into Irvoll’s career, but its references to London club culture are not treated simply as nostalgia.
Instead, the collection revisits an environment that helped establish the designer’s approach to fashion: one where clothing could be excessive, humorous and intensely personal without needing to conform to a single aesthetic category.
That perspective carries particular relevance within contemporary fashion, where visual trends can move rapidly between cities and platforms. Irvoll’s SS27 collection instead draws on lived experience, personal memory and a design language developed over time.
The result connects her early London influences with a broader body of work built around handmade construction, fantasy and individual expression.
For Fam Irvoll, the “partymonster” becomes less a reference to a specific moment in nightlife history than a continuing attitude towards dressing: colourful, theatrical and resistant to visual restraint.
