During London Fashion Week, Poet-Lab unveiled its AW-SS26 collection Resistant When Opposites Break — a bold exploration of tension, contradiction, and freedom. More than a presentation of garments, the show unfolded as a manifesto where fabric became language and silhouettes became declarations.
At its core, the collection celebrated contradiction: strength colliding with fragility, silence meeting voice, and structure dissolving into fluidity. Each piece felt like a sentence, each look a proclamation stitched into form. Transparency revealed the unspoken; seams punctuated silence.
The runway revealed raw and unconventional design choices. Tailored shoulders dissolved into sheer silk, rigid cuts unraveled into fluid drapes, and unfinished edges embraced honesty over polish. Fabrics spoke in deliberate contrasts — fragile silks, grounding cotton wools, sculptural taffeta, and repurposed deadstock textiles, reimagined as “ghost fabrics” carrying stories of renewal.
The palette mirrored this duality: earthy maroons, muted greens, and contemplative neutrals collided with bursts of saturated tones and luminous transparencies, embodying rebellion and vitality. Silhouettes danced between surrender and defiance, collapsing corporate power-shapes into liberated drapery, and layering references to both the disco freedom of the 1970s and the assertive tailoring of the 1980s.
Inspiration came from the urgency of the Futurist Manifesto, dissolving traditional fashion boundaries — between seasons, genders, and aesthetics. Minimalism appeared sharpened with precision, while maximalism was unleashed as protective force. Thirty looks translated into fifteen transformative statements, garments that served simultaneously as shields and proclamations, questions and answers.
Ultimately, Resistant When Opposites Break rejected fashion as ornament and redefined it as resistance: a revolution stitched in fabric, declaring that beauty is found where opposites collide.
